“...the best part about my job is the opportunity to influence events in the here and now...”

Tell us all about yourself

My name is Ludvig Ånnhagen and I’m a metallurgist. I first came to Vargön Alloys through an internship via the University, then for a summer job and finally as a permanent employee in 2023. I did my internship through Luleå University of Technology, where I was studying Industrial Environment and Process Technology, known these days as Sustainable Process and Chemical Technology.

Tell us how a normal day at work looks for you

‘Just what does a metallurgist do,’ you might well wonder. I can best describe a metallurgist as someone who seeks to understand and develop processes for the extraction, processing and improvement of metals and alloys.

While my metallurgist colleagues take care of day-to-day operations, my duties concern future production. My main focus is on making the process more eco-friendly and reducing Vargön’s carbon footprint to zero.

Thus my days differ a great deal, but the major focus on development issues is the common theme.

What do you like most about your work?

Without a doubt, the best part about my job is the opportunity to influence events in the here and now, and also the direction we’ll take moving forward. I find the many collaborations I have with the University and research institutions both interesting and exciting.

How would you describe Vargön Alloys as an employer?

Vargön Alloys is a fantastic workplace! Working in our industry is extremely satisfying for a metallurgist, and I feel that I’m developing day by day. I’m given a lot of responsibility and I’m allowed to influence the areas that are closest to my heart. Many of my colleagues have worked here for many years, which is a sure sign they enjoy being here.

And finally, what do you do when you’re not at work?

Unfortunately, I never became a soccer pro, but the dream lives on through Korpen. There’s a great many games and a lot of training, even though I don’t get paid for it. And on top of the soccer, my great interest in music means that I go to a lot of concerts.
